Luis Fisher

Board Member at Colts Youth Organization

Luis is an alumnus of the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps marching on contrabass bugle from 1992 to 1994. Prior to marching with the Colts, he marched for three years on contrabass with the Florida Wave Drum & Bugle Corps from 1989 to 1991. He is originally from Pompano Beach, Florida, and is a 1991 graduate of Coconut Creek High School in Coconut Creek, Florida. Soon after his final season in DCI, Luis enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an aircraft maintenance journeyman and an air & space operations craftsman from 1994 to 2005. Before leaving the Air Force, Luis marched on contrabass and euphonium with the Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps in 2004 and 2005.

Luis holds numerous Associate of Arts/Applied Sciences degrees as well as a Bachelor of Science in Music degree in Instrumental Music from the University of North Alabama (Florence, Alabama) and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Secondary Education from Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, Tennessee). Luis has been a music educator at the middle and high school level for over 10 years in Arizona and Florida. He also served as a visual adjudicator for the Arizona Marching Band Association (AzMBA) from 2017 to 2019 and a color guard design analysis adjudicator, and percussion visual and visual effect adjudicator with Winter Guard Arizona (WGAZ) from 2016 to 2019. Since 2019, he has lived in Lehigh Acres, Florida, and is currently the Director of Bands and department chairperson at Gateway High School in Fort Myers, Florida.

He is a member of his high school and university alumni associations with previous memberships in the Music Educators National Conference (Collegiate Chapter), Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association, Arizona Choral Educators Association (ACE), and Arizona Music Educators Association. Luis currently holds memberships in the Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education. He also has alumni and/or life memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. Amongst Luis’ many current and former students and friends, his family includes a son, Jacob, two daughters, Kathleen and Leah, a stepson, Alex, a stepdaughter, Maricella, six granddaughters (Lakin, Carly, CharLee, Aryia, Irene, and Salem), one grandson (Alejandro) and a Whoodle named Winston.
