Benjamin Schwartz serves as the Chief Creative Officer for the Department of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center since February 2012, while also holding positions as Assistant Professor of Medicine in Surgery and Lecturer for Narrative Medicine Seminars. In addition, Benjamin contributes as a Content Producer for the Department of Surgery New Media Team and previously worked as a Web Education Designer in the Department of Ophthalmology. Since July 2011, Benjamin has been a cartoonist for The New Yorker and has engaged in freelance illustration since June 2009. Prior to these roles, Benjamin completed a Medicine Residency at Columbia University Medical Center from June 2008 to June 2009. Educationally, Benjamin earned an MD in Medicine from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (2004-2008) and a BA in Psychology from Columbia University (1999-2003).
