Shira Goodman is a long-time leader at CJP. She most recently co-chaired CJP’s President Search Committee and co-chaired their 2018 Strategic Plan immediately before. Shira served on CJP’s Board of Directors from 2009-2018 and has also served on the Commission on Strategic Priorities, the Organizational Development Committee, the Budget & Administration Committee, and several day school committees. She rejoined the CJP Board of Directors in 2019 as the Vice-Chair to prepare for her tenure as Board Chair beginning in September 2020.
Much of Shira’s Jewish communal work has been in the education arena. Shira was President of the Board of Trustees for Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, served as Vice President of the Gann Academy Board of Trustees, and was an active member of the Board of the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale. She currently sits on the Harvard University Finance Committee.
Shira is an Advisory Director at Charlesbank Capital Partners and sits on the boards of directors of Carmax, Henry Schein, and CBRE.
Before becoming an Advisory Director at Charlesbank Capital Partners, Shira was the CEO of Staples where she held a variety of positions over 26 years. Shira began her career at Bain & Company. She holds a B.A. from Princeton University, an M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, and a J.D. from Harvard University. She lives in Newton with her husband, Rabbi Wesley Gardenswartz, and has three children.
