John W. Kemper

John W. Kemper is President and Chief Executive Officer of Commerce Bancshares, Inc., and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Commerce Bank. Kemper joined Commerce in 2007 and prior to his current role, served as the organization’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Before joining Commerce, he worked in the New York and Chicago offices of McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm.

Kemper holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Stanford University, a Master of Science in economic history from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is a member of the Visa Executive Client Counsel and serves on the boards of several civic organizations in the St. Louis region.
