Commonlands is building user-owned, verifiable financial infrastructure for emerging and frontier markets.

In many markets, identity systems, land records, and financial histories are fragmented across organizations. This fragmentation makes it difficult for institutions to verify information, assess risk, and extend credit—leaving millions of people excluded from formal financial systems.

Commonlands addresses this by creating a shared, portable system of record.

At the center is a user-owned record that consolidates verified data across land, savings, program participation, and credit history. With user consent, NGOs, financial institutions, and governments can contribute and access this data—enabling interoperability across programs, lenders, and geographies.

This infrastructure reduces fraud, prevents duplicate lending, and improves trust between institutions while expanding access to credit for individuals.

Commonlands is designed to integrate directly into existing systems, including savings groups, land registries, and credit origination platforms.

The result is a coordinated financial layer where individuals own their data and institutions can rely on it.

We are currently working with partners in East and West Africa to pilot and deploy this model in real-world environments.
