Alex Matthews

Alex Matthews is an experienced leader in environmental and social governance, currently serving as the Executive General Manager for Environmental & Social at Commonwealth Bank since November 2021, where responsibilities include shaping the bank's approach to these critical matters. Previously, Matthews held the position of General Manager for Climate Strategy & Commitments at the same institution, overseeing the development of the Group’s climate strategy. Prior to joining Commonwealth Bank, a tenure at McKinsey & Company spanned from February 2013 to November 2021, where Alex advanced from Business Analyst to Associate Partner, advising various clients on strategy, risk, and climate. Complementing consultative roles, engagements included consultant positions at Propel America and the Louisiana Department of Education, as well as strategic work with Teach For All and the Robertson Foundation. Academic credentials consist of a Master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Economics from the University of Melbourne.
