Hugh O'Carroll

Hugh O'Carroll has extensive work experience in the field of digital innovation and design. Hugh is currently working as the Senior Director of Digital Innovation & Design at Commonwealth Care Alliance since June 2021. Prior to this role, they served as the Director of Digital Transformation at the same company from December 2018 to June 2021.

Before joining Commonwealth Care Alliance, Hugh founded and worked as the Principal Consultant at Lean Design LLC for a brief period in 2018. Hugh has also worked as the Senior Manager of Digital Strategy at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey from February 2013 to August 2018. During their time there, they led the implementation and adoption of user-centered digital processes, delivered new digital member portal, sourced and delivered digital experience management platform, and delivered various innovative member experiences.

Hugh has also worked as a Digital Experience Consultant at Photon from April 2011 to February 2013 and as the Founder & Digital Experience Director at Digital Orchard from September 2009 to April 2011. Prior to that, they served as the eCommerce Innovations Manager at Avaya from September 2005 to August 2009 and as the Web Design Manager at Spectel from October 2001 to August 2005.

Hugh started their career as the Co-Founder & Marketing Manager at Web Ireland Magazine in January 1998 and later worked as a Copywriter at Owens DBB from 1996 to 1997.

Hugh O'Carroll has a diverse education history. Hugh obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English & Politics from the University of Galway in 1994. Hugh went on to earn a Certificate in Advertising Studies from Technological University Dublin in 1995 and a Professional (IAPI) Diploma in Creative Advertising from Technological University Dublin in 1999. In 2000, they completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Information Technology from University College Dublin. In 2015, they pursued a Master's Degree in User Experience Design from Kent State University, which they completed in 2017. Most recently, in 2021, they participated in a Digital Transformation program at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. Additionally, Hugh O'Carroll has obtained several certifications throughout their career, including Lean Six Sigma from Villanova University in 2014, Certified ScrumMaster® from Scrum Alliance in 2017, UX Research for Agile Teams from LinkedIn in 2018, and The Technology Leadership Experience – Cohort II from Ouellette & Associates Consulting, Inc. in 2021.
