Matthew Lewis has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Matthew started their career as a Clerk at Sam's Store, a family-run clothing business. Matthew then worked as a Customer Support Assistant at the Detroit Public Library. After that, they served as a Graduate Student Assistant at Wayne State University, providing research and office support, as well as assisting with the Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program. Matthew also worked as a Senior Project Manager at Little Things Labs, where they developed web and video content, and as a Project Editor at Issue Media Group, where they developed a series highlighting community development activities in Detroit. Matthew then worked as a Freelance Writer before joining Model D as a Managing Editor. In their role at Model D, they worked with writers, photographers, and videographers to publish content about Detroit. Matthew also has extensive experience at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, where they held multiple roles including Communications Officer, Senior Communications Officer, and Director of Governance and Operations. Matthew is currently a Member-Owner at Book Suey.

Matthew Lewis completed their education with a Master's of Urban Planning degree in Economic Development from Wayne State University in 2015. Prior to that, they received their Bachelor's degree in English and German from the University of Michigan from 2004 to 2008. Matthew's earlier education includes Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory where they earned their High School Diploma from 2000 to 2004.
