Joanna S. Ballantine currently serves as the Vice President for Philanthropic Services at the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, a role assumed in May 2022. Prior to this, Joanna was a Financial Planner & Advisor at The Davis Financial Group, where responsibilities included helping clients manage their financial goals. Joanna has extensive experience in leadership roles, having served as Vice President for the Western Region at The Trustees of Reservations, overseeing the strategic direction and management of numerous properties across Massachusetts. Additional roles include establishing the nonprofit division at Richard Levin & Associates and serving as Executive Director of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, where Joanna significantly expanded the organization’s reach and impact. Joanna's earlier positions include Director of Community Planning at the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts and a Senior Planning and Allocations Associate at the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco. Joanna holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore, a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College, and a Master of Arts from Baltimore Hebrew University.

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts was founded in 1991 to serve the needs of the Pioneer Valley. Encompassing 69 cities and towns in the Connecticut River Valley (Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties), the Foundation provides a vehicle for residents to focus their philanthropy on this beautiful and increasingly diverse region. The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts seeks to enrich the quality of life of the people of Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties by: • Encouraging philanthropy. • Developing a permanent, flexible endowment. • Assessing and responding to emerging and changing needs. • Providing a vehicle for donors with varied interests and at various levels of giving. • Serving as a resource, catalyst and coordinator for charitable activities. • Promoting efficiency in the management of charitable funds.
