Mike Bielawa

Mike Bielawa has a diverse work experience in the community development field. Mike started their career as an Assistant Director at the Beverly Area Planning Association in 1973, where they worked until 1975. After that, they joined Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago as an Administrative Coordinator and stayed there until 1980. In 1980, they became the Executive Director of the Oak Park Housing Authority and served in that role until 1985. Currently, they hold the position of Vice President at the Community Investment Corporation.

Mike Bielawa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago in 1970. Mike later pursued further education at the same university and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Urban Studies from Loyola University Chicago in 1973. Prior to their college education, Mike attended Mater Christi, though no specific degrees or fields of study are indicated.

COMMUNITY INVESTMENT CORPORATION, Chicago's Multifamily Rehab Lender, is a nonprofit providing mortgage financing to buy and rehab apartment buildings with five units or more in the 6-county metropolitan Chicago area. Since 1999 over 14,000 landlords and managers have completed CIC property management training to help them better market, manage and maintain affordable rental property. CIC also provides below-market financing for multifamily energy improvements in the Energy Savers program. Since 1984 CIC has loaned over $1.2 billion for acquisition and rehab of over 2,200 buildings with 58,000 units. In 2012 CIC received the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
