Alex Cardenas has a diverse work experience in various roles related to medical physics and radiation safety. They started their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where they conducted research on respiratory gating with Varian RPM and gained clinical experience in radiation oncology physics. They then worked as a Medical Physicist at Lehigh Valley Hospital, where they performed all duties of a medical physicist for external beam and brachytherapy procedures.

At Varian Medical Systems, they worked as the North America Physics Manager for the Global Clinical Helpdesk, remotely managing a team of 18 and resolving customer needs and complaints in the US.

Currently, Cardenas holds the position of Chief Medical Physicist at Compass Oncology, where they manage a team of 6 across 3 clinics in 2 states. They also serve as the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer and coordinate with McKesson Corporation for equipment purchases, upgrades, and training.

Alex Cardenas has a Ph.D. in Physics from Purdue University, obtained in 2002. Before that, they earned a Master of Science in Physics from Purdue University in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1996. They also have an M.B.A. in Business Administration and General Management from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, completed in 2013.
