Volga Mermut has extensive work experience in the telecommunications industry. Volga began their career in 1991 as a Radio Teletype Operator at 737 Communications Squadron. Volga then worked as a LAN/IT Manager in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1995 to 1998. After that, they worked as a Systems Analyst at ISM-BC in 1998. In 1999, they joined Telus Mobility as a Fiber Transport Engineer, where they designed, deployed, and managed optical networks. From 2001 to 2010, they worked at Ditech Networks in various roles, including Systems Engineer and Wireless Solutions Architect. Volga was responsible for pre/post-sales activities, supporting the sales organization, and educating customers on voice quality enhancement technologies. From 2011 to 2013, they worked as a Senior Sales Engineer at Swiss Mobility Solutions. Volga then moved to Free At Last Communications as President/Owner, providing consulting services. Volga joined TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. in 2011 as a Sr. Telecom Engineer Next Gen 911 i3 Network, working with VoIP, SS7, and media gateways. Volga later became a Principal Telecom Engineer, where they had detailed knowledge in TDM, VoIP, and SS7 networks, and worked with various media gateways and call flow analysis tools. Currently, they are working as an Operational Architect Principal Engineer at Comtech Telecommunications Corp. since 2017.

Volga Mermut earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, studying from 1988 to 1993.
