Rafael Saer

Principal Scientist, Biology at Confluence Discovery Technologies

Rafael Saer is currently a Principal Scientist in Biology and a Scientist in Enzymology at Confluence Discovery Technologies since 2021. Prior to that, they were a Co-Founder at Engine 2 Photonics from 2018-2021, providing lighting and horticultural consultation solutions to clients engaged in controlled environment agriculture. From 2015-2018, they were a Project Manager and Consultant at The BALSA Group. From 2014-2015, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at Washington University in St. Louis. From 2010-2014, they were a Graduate Student at The University of British Columbia and a Graduate Advisor for the UBC iGEM Club, working with a team of undergraduates to create, get funding for, and work on a synthetic biology-focused summer research project. Results were presented at the annual iGEM jamboree at MIT in Cambridge, MA. From 2005-2008, they were a Stage Manager at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.

Rafael Saer attended the University of Miami from 2004 to 2008, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Microbiology and Immunology. Rafael then attended The University of British Columbia from 2008 to 2014, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Microbiology and Immunology.
