Matthew Begemann

Matthew Begemann is an accomplished biotechnology professional with extensive experience in research and development. Currently serving as Senior Director of R&D at Confluence Genetics since June 2025, Matthew previously held several leadership roles at Benson Hill from June 2014 to June 2025, including Sr Director of Gene Editing & Trait Discovery and various positions within Molecular Technologies. Prior to this, Matthew contributed to academic research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Graduate Student, focusing on genetics and metabolic engineering of cyanobacteria, and at the University of Missouri as a Research Assistant, engaging in projects related to bioremediation and hydrogen production. Matthew holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
