Florian Sterl

Florian Sterl is currently working as an Optomechatronics Engineer at Confocal.nl since May 2021. Prior to this role, they were the owner of a small business called Sterltech Optics, specializing in computer-generated artwork for visualizing scientific concepts and offering services in the design and development of optical measurement setups and associated software. Florian started this business in January 2017.

Before starting their own business, Florian worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Stuttgart from July 2020 to April 2021, where they focused on the interaction of visible light with plasmonic metallic nanostructures and the development of optical measurement setups for the characterization of complex nanoplasmonic systems. Florian also worked as a PhD student at the same university from March 2014 to July 2020. During their PhD, they successfully defended their thesis on "Imaging Microspectroscopy of Functional Nanoplasmonic Systems". Additionally, Florian worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Stuttgart from October 2014 to November 2019, where they participated in teaching activities and supervised BSc/MSc projects.

Florian's educational background includes a Master's degree in Optical Sciences, which they completed as an MSc student at the University of Twente from January 2013 to December 2013. Florian also worked as a Teaching Assistant at the same university from 2009 to 2013. Furthermore, Florian gained experience as an intern at ICFO, The Institute of Photonic Sciences, from September 2012 to December 2012, conducting research in the Molecular Nanophotonics group. Florian also worked as a Product Developer at SenseTech B.V. from April 2012 to August 2012, focusing on the development of an optical system for monitoring small dust particles in the air.
