Michael Hackett

Michael Hackett has a diverse work experience in the field of music. Michael began their career as an Independent Music Professional in 1986 and has since held various roles in different organizations. From 2005, they worked as an Artist at Summit Records, and from 1998 they served as an Endorsing Artist for Conn-Selmer, Inc. In 2008, they became an Instructor at Yellowstone Jazz Camp until 2014. Hackett also worked as a Trumpet player for The Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra from 2004 to 2011. Michael served as the Director of Jazz Bands at Indiana State University from 2010 to 2011 and as a Lecturer at The Ohio State University from 2008 to 2009. Hackett was an Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Jazz at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2011 to 2018, and later became an Assistant Professor of Jazz and Commercial Music at The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2018. Additionally, Hackett was a member of the Piedmont Triad Jazz Orchestra from 2014 to 2018.

Michael Hackett's education history includes various degrees and studies in the field of music. Michael attended Mt. Hood Community College from 1981 to 1983, where they pursued music without obtaining a degree. Michael then attended Indiana University Bloomington from 1983 to 1988, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz. Following that, they completed a Master of Music in Jazz at Indiana University Bloomington from 1989 to 1991. Lastly, they obtained a Doctor of Music in Brass Pedagogy from Indiana University Bloomington from 2004 to 2010.
