Sony Oum

Country Director, Cambodia at Conservation International

Sony Oum is currently the Country Director for Cambodia at Conservation International. Prior to this, they worked as a Policy Specialist for the UNDP from July 2018 to August 2022. In this role, they coordinated and led the process related to ongoing community-based NRM, Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES), and sustainable production of Forest. They also coordinated policy dialogues and consultation, supported the UNDP to formulate programmes and promote partnership building and knowledge management.

From July 2011 to September 2014, Sony Oum worked as the National Project Manager for Fauna & Flora International (FFI) on the EU-NSA Community Empowerment Project. In this role, they ensured, planned and oversaw the execution of the EC and FE funded project “Cardamom Mountains Community Empowerment Project: Enabling Cambodia’s rural poor to manage their land and alleviate poverty.”

From October 2015 to June 2016, Sony Oum worked as a National Consultant (part-time) for NTFP-EP. And from September 2014 to September 2015, they were the Country Coordinator for Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme (NTFP-EP).

From October 2010 to December 2013, Sony Oum served as a Board Member for Cambodia NTFP Working Group (CNWG).

Sony Oum reports to M. Sanjayan, CEO. Sony Oum works with Rachel Biderman - SVP, Americas, Leticia Gutierrez - VP, Conservation International, Mexico, and Richard Jeo - SVP, Asia-Pacific Field Division.
