Matthew McKown has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations. Matthew started their career as a Consultant at Environmental Resources Management in 1995 and worked there until 1998. Matthew then moved on to the National Audubon Society and served as the Assistant Director of Citizen Science from 1998 to 2002. Following that, they worked at the Juan Fernandez Islands Conservancy as a Researcher from 2004 to 2007. Matthew then joined the Marine Science Institute as an Instructor in 2007. In 2008, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Santa Cruz and stayed in that role until 2012. Finally, in 2013, they became the CEO of Conservation Metrics, Inc., where they continue to work. Overall, Matthew McKown has accumulated significant experience in roles related to environmental conservation, research, and management.
Matthew McKown earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Colorado College, where they studied from 1991 to 1995. Prior to that, they attended St. George's School from 1987 to 1991. Further back, from 1981 to 1986, they attended Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo. Matthew's earliest education was at the American School in Mexico City, where they studied from 1978 to 1981. Later on, they pursued a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completing their studies from 2002 to 2007.

We provide rigorous data for impact assessments, cost-effective tools for measuring ecological changes after restoration and management actions or development projects, and statistically sound approaches for estimating population trends over time.
