Shaun M. Johnson

Shaun Johnson is senior vice president and general counsel of CMS Energy and Consumers Energy. He was named to this position in 2019.

Johnson is responsible for the legal department and all legal matters affecting the company. He also has overall responsibility for corporate secretary activities, investor services, corporate records, compliance and enterprise risk functions.

Johnson joined the company as vice president and deputy general counsel in 2016. In this role, he oversaw litigation, general practice and federal energy regulatory practice groups and provided legal oversight for business development activities.

Johnson formerly served as director of the energy industry group for the law firm Dykema Gossett PLLC, specializing in public utilities, energy and taxation. During his tenure, he represented several public utility and energy clients throughout the United States on a wide range of business and legal issues.

Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University and a law degree from Michigan State University. He is a member of the Ingham County, Michigan, and Federal Energy bar associations and is past chair of the Michigan Bar Association’s Administrative Law Section Council.
