Derek Kou, CPA

Derek Kou, CPA, has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Derek is currently the Director of Finance and Accounting at SmartFinancial, where they have been since June 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Corporate Accounting Manager at SmartFinancial from April 2021 to June 2023.

Before joining SmartFinancial, Derek was a Senior Corporate Accountant at The Picerne Group from May 2019 to April 2021. Derek also served as an Accounting Supervisor at The Management Trust from December 2016 to May 2019.

Derek began their career as an Auditor at Rojas & Associates, CPAs from May 2012 to December 2016. Derek gained experience in private equity as a Private Equity Associate Intern at Revolution Capital Group from July 2010 to November 2011.

In addition, Derek has interned at Webullient Corporation as an Accounting & Operations Intern from June 2009 to September 2009. Derek also worked as a Supervisor at Loyola Marymount University, College of Business Administration from August 2008 to June 2009.

Derek Kou, CPA, obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University, which they attended from 2007 to 2011. Prior to their university education, Derek attended Los Alamitos High School from 2003 to 2007. Derek has also obtained the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification from the California Board of Accountancy in October 2015.
