Hengrui Zhang

Hengrui Zhang is a researcher and engineer at Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, since October 2025. Prior experience includes serving as a graduate researcher at Northwestern University from September 2021 to September 2025, focusing on representation and machine learning methods for complex materials systems and adaptive data acquisition. Hengrui held roles as a teaching assistant for courses in materials informatics and high-performance computing, and worked as a research intern at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, where efforts centered on machine learning applications in electrical machine design. Earlier, Hengrui conducted undergraduate research at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and had visiting scholar experiences at McCormick School of Engineering and the University of Oxford. Hengrui holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and a BS in Materials Science and Engineering and Computer Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
