Thomas Orr

Thomas Orr began their career in 2004 as a Webmaster (temp) at Hillsborough County, where they assisted with keeping development costs down by assessing 3rd party software, maintained the county's internet and intranet using ColdFusion 5/MX, and performed program analysis for several applications. In the same year, they joined The Active Network as a Senior Software Engineer, where they led a team of hybrid (Java/ColdFusion) developers, actively coded in Java and Coldfusion for middle tier development, and introduced various advanced testing techniques using Fake Objects (Mocking, etc.). In 2011, they moved to Puresend as a Senior Software Engineer, where they redesigned the code base through modularization, improving its testability and reasonability, enhanced the user experience by updating the UI using jQuery UI components, and lead a team of full time developers, contract developers, and offshore QA resources. In 2012, they joined The Search Agency as a Senior Software Engineer, where they collaborated on, and largely implemented, the SOA architecture for AdMaxLocal, the company's flagship product, designed a custom NoSQL document store for schema-less storage, and provided leadership in the ongoing process of moving towards a SOA based SaaS platform. In 2014, they became Principal Architect at Citizens Bank, where they managed the SDLC for the Consumer Online and Mobile development teams, directed (and implemented much of) the transition from a monolithic code base to a microservice based architecture, and defined and implemented the continuous integration processes. Finally, in 2016, they joined Context Labs BV as VP, Engineering, where they reported directly to the CEO as part of the executive team, led the technical team through due diligence activities in support of investments, and identified, retained, and grew the internal engineering talent, as well as recruited external talent.

Thomas Orr attended the University of South Florida from 2001 to 2004, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
