Andrew Berens, MBA, MLS(ASCP), SM has extensive experience in the field of clinical microbiology. Andrew currently serves as the Business Development Manager, Northeast at COPAN Diagnostics, Inc., where they build relationships with lab customers and manages sales for various clinical microbiology products.

Prior to their current role, Berens held the position of Manager - Microbiology & Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where they managed a 24/7 clinical microbiology lab and oversaw a staff of 48 employees. Andrew was responsible for budgeting, purchasing new instrumentation, hiring staff, and streamlining QA/QC processes. Andrew was also a CAP-accredited laboratory inspector.

Berens also served as the Manager of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Mount Auburn Hospital, where they were responsible for Bacteriology, Mycology, and Molecular Diagnostics. Andrew implemented a new reverse testing algorithm for C. difficile and handled QA monitoring, QC review, procedure writing, and staff management.

Before their managerial positions, Berens gained experience as an Assistant Supervisor and Medical Technologist in the Microbiology & Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at BMC. Andrew oversaw various departments, on-boarded new employees, and ensured efficient scheduling and training.

Earlier in their career, Berens worked as a Medical Technologist in Microbiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Cambridge Health Alliance, and MIT Medical. At MIT Medical, they also served as a Microbiology Supervisor, where they updated procedures, trained staff, and improved workflow and compliance.

Lastly, Berens held roles as a Senior Resident Assistant and Resident Assistant at UMass Dartmouth, showcasing their leadership skills outside the healthcare industry.
