Doug Williams

Interim Superintendent at Coppell ISD

Mr. Doug Williams began his career in education in 1987 as a classroom teacher and a coach, and moved into school administration in 1999. Before retiring from the superintendency in 2023, he successfully led Sunnyvale ISD as its superintendent for 16 years. During his tenure at Sunnyvale, Mr. Williams led the district through the most dynamic and significant changes in its history.

Through solid consensus-building and excellent community relations, Mr. Williams and the Board of Trustees unified a divided community and successfully passed three bond packages between 2007 and 2018. He managed the construction of new campuses, athletic facilities, and a competition-level auditorium. He led the district to a successful Tax Ratification Election in 2019 and another VATRE in 2022.

As the President of the Texas Association of School Administrators, a position he held in the 2021-2022 school year, Mr. Williams traveled across the state to share words of encouragement as schools worked to overcome the impact of COVID. His TASA leadership roles also included serving as the Legislative Chair, where he led efforts for school finance reform and for local accountability for school districts. Mr. Williams has always been a strong advocate for Texas public schools and the mission for transformation in education.

In retirement, Williams continues to work with school boards and administrators. He serves as a TASA Executive Superintendent and is involved in the Executive Coaching program. His mission remains to help shift the mindset in Texas public education from high-stakes testing to preparing students for today’s world.

He is married to his wife, Kris, and they live in Sunnyvale. They have three children: Emily Taylor, who is married to Caine; Caleb Williams, who is married to Megan; and Olivia O’Neal, who is married to Seth. The Williams have four grandchildren.
