Dr Rory Megginson

Dr Rory Megginson has a diverse work experience starting from their role as a Postgraduate Energy Fellow at POST | Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology in 2018 where they wrote a briefing on flexible electricity systems for MPs and Peers. Dr Rory also developed a referencing guide for future fellows during their time there. In 2016, they worked as a PhD Researcher at the University of St Andrews, focusing on the hydrogenation of furfural using bimetallic catalysts and published three scientific papers based on their research. In 2021, Dr Megginson joined CORE POWER (UK) Ltd as a Senior Analyst where they led the company's work in producing E-Fuels using marinised nuclear power. Dr Rory developed a full model of the proposed facility and collaborated with partners to gather technical information on plant components. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Analytics at CORE POWER, overseeing a team of 5 people and conducting research on marine nuclear technology to overcome regulatory, economic, and technical challenges of its deployment. The research reports produced by him and their team have received widespread attention and media coverage, including features on BBC.

Dr. Rory Megginson's education history includes a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with Nanotechnology from the University of Hull, which they obtained from 2011 to 2015. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews from 2015 to 2016. Dr Rory then went on to complete their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry with a specialization in Surface Science at the University of St Andrews, which they obtained from 2016 to 2020.
