Dr. Joel Hanson

Medical Director at Corner Canyon Health Centers

Dr. Joel Hanson has a wide range of experience in the field of addiction medicine and psychiatry. Dr. Joel currently holds the position of Chief Medical Officer at Altium Health, where they oversee office-based addiction treatment, telemedicine, and provides medical and administrative assistance for various programs. Previously, they served as the Medical Director at Corner Canyon Recovery and True North Treatment centers, and as a Psychiatrist at Wasatch Mental Health and Shadow Mountain Recovery. Dr. Hanson also has experience in private practice and has held roles such as Director of Ambulatory Detox at White Tree Medical and Founder/Owner/Medical Director at St. George Detox Hospital. Dr. Joel has a strong passion for helping individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues.

Dr. Joel Hanson received their Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1990. Dr. Joel then went on to complete an Internship in Internal Medicine at Columbia University from 1990 to 1991. Following this, they pursued a Dual Residency in the Psychiatry Residency Program and Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine from 1991 to 1996.

In terms of certifications, Dr. Hanson obtained their Psychiatry certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. in 1998. Dr. Joel also holds a certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), which they obtained in December 2012. Additionally, they are licensed as a Physician & Surgeon in Utah and New Mexico, and holds a Telemedicine certification from the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department, obtained in July 2013.
