Simon Crean

Simon brings unparalleled industry experience and political intelligence to Cornerstone’s Board as a respected former Labor Leader and Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) president.

Simon’s leadership status on the Australian national stage stems from his high profile and successful tenure at the ACTU, then with eight terms as a Federal MP acting as Cabinet Minister for four Labor Governments. His achievements in negotiating across the table with Bob Hawke and Paul Keating, then in Cabinet shaping far-reaching policies with them are some features of a remarkable career.

In government Simon held the ministry portfolios of Science and Technology, Primary Industries and Energy, Employment, Education and Training, Trade, Regional Development and the Arts. In opposition he rose from Deputy Leader to the mantle of Labor Party Leader.

Simon sits on the Boards of Linfox International Group, Monash University Council, the National Indigenous Education Foundation, Melbourne Luna Park and the Advisory Board of SEM (South East Melbourne). He is Chairman of the Live Exporters Council, Chair of Deakin University Smart Manufacturing Group, Vice Chair of the European Australian Business Council and a Director of the Red Meat Advisory Council and LiveCorp.

Simon’s knowledge and experience of the inner workings of government and his active involvement in addressing the goals of Cornerstone clients gives the team a strategic advantage in government relations and corporate affairs.

Simon holds a B.Ec. and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University.
