Steve Hawkins

Trustee at Cornwall Hospice Care

Steve Hawkins is on the Board of Trustees at Cornwall Hospice Care. Previously, Steve was a GP in Truro for over thirty years, in which time he came to the conclusion that end-of-life care is the touchstone of a good health care system. That view was strengthened by the experience of looking after his wife at home when she died from breast cancer. Steve joined the Board of Trustees at the beginning of 2016 and was immediately impressed by the expertise on hand and by the commitment to the service. He hopes to make a contribution as part of the clinical services committee and he's particularly interested in the roles of education and training and the opportunities they have to facilitate further improvements in end of life care across the county, so that the outstanding care standards which Cornwall Hospices provide can be brought to many more of those with the end of life needs in the community.
