Malick Shahab

Malick is a Managing Director in CFGI’s Accounting Advisory practice, providing technical expertise on financial reporting issues and complex areas of accounting to companies ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups, some of which he took public. He has over 15 years of experience working with clients in a variety of industries with a focus on Financial Services, FinTech, Technology and more recently companies in the Cryptocurrency space.

Malick’s skills include complex technical accounting matters, such as allowance for loan losses and doubtful debt (ASC 310), current expected credit losses (ASC 326); transfer and servicing of assets (ASC 860); digital assets transactions; business combinations; financial instruments/ hedging; debt and equity transactions, among others. He has systems/technology expertise in Alteryx, Power BI, and CARTA.

While at CFGI, Malick has primarily worked on Technology, FinTech and Cryptocurrency clients and has executed a variety of projects supporting his clients with their complex technical accounting matters; SEC reporting; financial statement preparation and audit readiness; SOX compliance and Controls optimization and process improvements.

Before CFGI, Malick spent 15 years at EY in various roles across the world, most recently as Senior Manager in the Los Angeles office. Malick was responsible for leading audit and advisory engagements for various public and non-public companies in Financial Services and FinTech Sectors. Malick has analyzed and advised numerous clients on issues ranging from technical accounting matters, IPO Readiness, adoptions of new accounting and regulatory standards, complex transactions, controls rationalization and process optimizations, including automation. In addition to leading audit projects, Malick has also led advisory projects for high growing private companies and assisted them towards their initial public offering.

Malick has a Bachelor of Science (hons) in Applied Accounts from Oxford Brookes UK. He is a Certified Public Accountant in California and a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant in the UK.
