Ryan Schell has extensive experience in the fire prevention and protection industry. Ryan began their career in 1999 as a Fire Safety & Technical Contract Administrator at Lyons Fire Protection Services Inc. From there, they worked in various roles including Fire Protection Technician at D&L Fire Protection Limited and Fire Alarm Technician at Tyco SimplexGrinnell. In 2001, they joined Onyx-Fire Protection Services Inc. where they specialized in Fire Safety Plans and Training. That same year, they also worked as a Fire Prevention Inspector at The Corporation of The Town of Aurora. In 2005, they became an Instructor at Seneca College, teaching the Ontario Fire Code course. Then, in 2008, they joined Central York Fire Services as a Fire Prevention Officer and eventually became the Chief Fire Prevention Officer for the Town of Newmarket. Ryan remains in this position to date.

Ryan Schell has an extensive education history in the field of fire service and emergency management. Ryan attended Seneca Polytechnic from 1996 to 1999, where they obtained a degree in Fire Protection Engineering Technology. In 1997, they also received a certificate from Base Borden - The Canadian Forces Fire Academy through Seneca College Fire Camp. Ryan later pursued further education at The Ontario Fire College - Office of the Fire Marshal from 2003 to 2014, earning a Certified Fire Prevention Officer degree in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Professional Standards Setting Body & IFSAC.

In 2016, Ryan Schell obtained two certifications from the Ontario Municipal Management Institute, namely CMM III Fire Service Professional and CMM III Fire Prevention Professional, both endorsed by the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and the Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association, respectively.

From 2016 to 2017, Ryan attended Dalhousie University, specializing in Fire Service Leadership and Fire Service Management Education. Ryan then pursued studies in Emergency Management and Exercise Design at the Justice Institute of British Columbia from 2017 to 2021.

In addition to their formal education, Ryan Schell has obtained multiple certifications throughout the years. These certifications include NFPA-accredited designations such as Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer II, Fire Officer I, Fire Investigator, Fire and Life Safety Educator II, and Fire Instructor II. These certifications have been accredited by recognized institutions such as the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, The Pro Board, and NFPA. Ryan's most recent certification is the Canadian Certified Fire Investigator Level C designation, which they obtained in 2020 from the CAFI-Canadian Association of Fire Investigators.
