Bart Smekens

Bart Smekens has a diverse work experience in legal and compliance roles. Bart started their career as a Collections Specialist at La-On Lawyers België in 2009. Bart then worked as a Litigator (advocaat) in civil, insurance, and commercial litigation at Lange, Verstraete & Clijmans from 2010 to 2013, and later at Clijmans Advocaten from 2013 to 2016.

In 2016, Bart joined STRABAG as a Legal Counsel BeLux & France, focusing on corporate, civil, construction, and data protection law. Bart held this position until 2018.

From 2018 to 2020, Bart worked at Evonik as a Legal Counsel EMEA. In this role, they specialized in corporate and civil/commercial law, and also served as a Regional Compliance Officer.

Currently, Bart is employed at Corporify as a Legal Product Expert, and starting from 2022, they also took on the role of Product Owner at Visual Contracts.

Bart Smekens has a diverse education history. Bart first attended Vrije Universiteit Brussel from 2004 to 2009, where they obtained a Master of Laws degree. In 2009, they returned to Vrije Universiteit Brussel and completed a Master of Science degree in Corporate Science in 2010.

After a few years, in 2012, Bart enrolled at the University of Antwerp to pursue an Advanced Master of Laws degree with a specialization in Businesslaw, which they completed in 2013.

Most recently, in 2019, Bart attended the UX Design Institute and attained a Professional Diploma in UX Design in 2020.

In addition to their formal education, Bart has obtained several certifications. Bart completed the CS50 for Lawyers program at Harvard University in January 2022. Bart also holds certifications in Responsive Web Design from freeCodeCamp (December 2020), The Complete 2020 Web Development Bootcamp from Udemy (May 2020), and The Web Developer Bootcamp from Udemy (September 2019). Additionally, Bart obtained a Professional Competency Certificate from Orde van Vlaamse Balies in October 2010 and a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (CFL1) certification from CrossFit, Inc. in May 2019.
