Miguel Angel Jorge is a highly-accomplished marine policy and sustainability expert with a track record of success in locations around the globe. Also skilled in sustainable development, biodiversity, marine spatial planning, innovative finance, blue economy, community-based resource management, commercial and artisanal fisheries, and aquaculture, he provides technical expertise to international organizations, governments, private companies, and NGOs across the world on a wide array of oceans-related matters. Miguel’s work with Council Fire is uniquely focused on strategies to enable lasting economic prosperity and climate resilience in coastal communities.

He has served as Senior Fisheries Specialist and ProBlueTrust Fund Manager at the World Bank, the Director of the National Geographic Society’s Ocean Initiative, and WWF’s Global Marine Program Director, designing and implementing strategies focused on cross-sector collaboration in support of a sustainable blue economy. He has led teams designing large-scale conservation plans in the Galapagos Islands and Mesoamerican Reef.

A native of Cuba, Miguel has a Masters in Marine Policy from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor’s in Aquatic Biology from UC Santa Barbara.
