Mark Appleton is an accomplished legal and policy professional with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Currently serving as an Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since October 2022, Appleton is also a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations and a Board Member at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. Previously, Appleton held several key roles including Articles Editor for the Northwestern Journal of Human Rights and a range of positions within the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Energy as a presidential appointee during the Obama administration. Appleton's education includes a Doctor of Law (JD) from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, complemented by a BA in History from Arizona State University and a certification in Strategy and Policy Development from The United States Army War College.
