André Marcel Harris, MSW, is an experienced social worker and advocate specializing in policy and legislative affairs, particularly in relation to sickle cell disease and healthcare accessibility. Currently serving as an intern for NASTAD, André assists in implementing legislative objectives concerning HIV and hepatitis. As the National Sickle Cell Partnership Director for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., André manages advocacy and awareness initiatives engaging over 15,000 members. In the role of Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs for the Sickle Cell Association of Houston, strategic guidance has been provided for legislative efforts. Additionally, André founded the Black Men in Social Work group to support underrepresented professionals in social work. A previous policy analyst for the Texas House of Representatives, André has also held roles with various organizations, enhancing healthcare policy and community engagement. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work at the University of Houston, André holds a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor's degree in Social Work.

Founded in 1952, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is the national association representing social work education in the United States. Its members include more than 800 accredited baccalaureate and master’s degree social work programs and their affiliated social work educators, students, and staff, as well as practitioners and agencies dedicated to advancing quality social work education. Through its many initiatives, activities, and centers, CSWE supports quality social work education and provides opportunities for leadership and professional development so that social workers are empowered to play a central role in achieving the profession’s goals of social and economic justice. CSWE’s Commission on Accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in the United States and its territories.
