Colter Coates

Colter Coates has a diverse work experience in the animation industry. Colter currently holds the position of Lead Animator at CounterPunch, A Virtuos Studio. Prior to this role, they worked as an Animator at CounterPunch, A Virtuos Studio and inXile entertainment.

Before joining CounterPunch and inXile, Coates served as a 3D Animator at Magnopus, where they worked from 2019 to 2021. Colter also worked briefly as an Animator at Visual Concepts in 2019.

Coates gained significant experience at Telltale Games, where they served as a Cinematic Artist for three years from 2015 to 2018. During their time at Telltale Games, they adapted scripts into interactive cinematic scenes for episodic games and played a key role in integrating animation libraries, acting and shot pacing, staged cameras and actors, and solving technical problems.

Coates began their professional career as an Animation Instructor and Tutor at the Academy of Art University in 2014. Colter taught 3D Animation and Modeling and provided assistance to students with their assignments and short films. Colter also worked as a 3D Animation/VFX Lab Technician, managing computer labs and helping students with Maya work.

In 2012, Coates worked as an Animator at Roninfilm and Black Ops Entertainment. At Roninfilm, they animated bipedal robots for a web series and collaborated with the animation team. At Black Ops Entertainment, they contributed to the animation pipeline by creating bipedal cycles and character tests for iPhone and iPad applications.

In 2011, Coates served as a Jr. Creature Animator on the feature film "Spiders 3D" at Roninfilm. Colter worked under the direction of the film's Director, VFX Director, and Lead Animator to deliver final animations within tight deadlines. Coates also gained experience as an Animation Intern at Lamplight Media during the same year.

Colter Coates attended Great Basin Community College from 2007 to 2008, where they studied English. Colter then pursued a Bachelor Degree of Science in Computer Animation at Full Sail University from 2008 to 2010. Finally, from 2013 to 2016, Colter attended The Animation Collaborative and focused on Character Animation.
