Jimmy Stewart has a diverse work experience in various roles related to emergency services and public safety. Jimmy started their career in 1981 as an Operations Officer/EMT-Intermediate at the Hoke County Ambulance Service. Jimmy then moved on to work as a Supervisor/EMT-Intermediate at County of Hoke-EMS from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, they joined the City of Raleigh Municipal Government as a Public Safety Telecommunicator. In 1988, they became the Director of Emergency Services at County of Hoke, a position they held until 1993. From 1993 to 1996, they served as the Director of Public Safety Planning at LUMBER RIVER COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS. In 1996, they started working as a Paramedic at Central Carolina Hospital and also took up the role of an Adjunct Instructor at Bladen Community College. Lastly, in 2003, they became the Director of Emergency Communications at County of Hoke, where they continue to work.
Jimmy Stewart's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Business Administration and Management, General from the University of Mount Olive, which they obtained from 2003 to 2005. Prior to that, they completed an Associate's Of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Science at Sandhills Community College from 1996 to 1998. In 1980 to 1982, they attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied Biology, although they did not obtain a degree in this field.
In addition to their formal education, Jimmy Stewart has obtained various certifications. Some of these include being an Advanced Cardiac Life Support-Instructor, Basic Cardiac Life Support-Instructor, Pediatric Advanced Life Support-Instructor, NC Paramedic Instructor-Level II, Paramedic, Tactical Combat Casualty Care-Provider, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Hazardous Materials-Operations, Technical Rescuer, and Affiliate Faculty/Course Coordinator/Instructor. These certifications were obtained from different institutions and organizations, such as the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, NC Office of EMS, State of North Carolina, National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, and North Carolina Department of Insurance, among others. The certifications were obtained in various years, ranging from 1995 to 2021.
