Matthew Townend

Matthew Townend has extensive work experience in the field of cyber security. Matthew currently holds the position of Group Head of Cyber Security at Cover-More Group, a role they started in May 2022. Prior to this, they worked as an Information Security Manager at Coal Services Pty Limited from December 2017 to April 2022. Before that, they held various positions at the Department of Family and Community Services (NSW) including Information Security Technical Lead and Senior Security & Risk Administrator. Matthew also worked as a Senior Security Engineer at Dimension Data and as a Systems Security Professional and Systems Administrator/Desktop Support at Lynas Corporation Ltd. Matthew'searly career includes a position as a Network Security Engineer at Centrelink.

Matthew Townend's education history includes several notable achievements in the field of Information Technology. Matthew attended Charles Sturt University from 2020 to 2021, where they pursued a Graduate Certificate in Information Systems Security. Prior to that, they attended TAFE NSW from 2010 to 2011, earning a Diploma of IT (Networking). Matthew also studied at the Canberra Institute of Technology from 2006 to 2008, completing an IT Certificate IV.

In addition to their formal education, Matthew Townend has obtained several certifications. Matthew became a Certified Chief Information Security Officer (CCISO) through EC-Council in September 2021. In December 2018, they achieved the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification from ISACA. In November 2016, Matthew obtained the Certified ISO 27001 Lead Implementer certification through PECB. Lastly, they attained the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)² in 2014.
