Pat Allan

Pat Allan has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. In 2003, they worked as a Software Developer at Managed Business Outcomes, where they built web and desktop solutions using languages such as C# and ASP.NET. During this time, they also gained experience in business consulting and team culture.

In 2004, Pat founded and led the team that organized the Australian Discworld Convention, the first of its kind outside of the UK. They successfully brought together fans of author Sir Terry Pratchett for a memorable event.

From 2007 to 2015, Pat took on the role of Web Developer at Square Circle Triangle and later worked independently as a Web Developer for various local and international clients. They provided expertise in Ruby, CSS, Javascript, and built search solutions using Sphinx.

In 2009, Pat co-founded Trampoline, an unconference platform that allowed participants to share and discuss ideas from various disciplines.

In 2014, Pat became the Vice President of Ruby Australia, where they provided support for Ruby events and activities. They later served as the President from 2018 until 2020.

In 2016, Pat co-founded Limbr App, a social enterprise focused on improving accessibility and acceptance of mental health care. They contributed to back-end development, infrastructure, and data security. They also played a role in shaping the company culture and product offerings.

In 2010, Pat founded Flying Sphinx, a software-as-a-service product that provides full-text search solutions. They remained actively involved in its operation and customer service.

Most recently, in 2023, Pat joined Covidence.org as a Staff Engineer.

Throughout their career, Pat has demonstrated a strong passion for their work, leadership capabilities, and dedication to improving the Ruby and tech communities.

Pat Allan attended Swinburne University of Technology from 2001 to 2004, where they pursued a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a major in Computer Science and Software Engineering.
