Steve J. Pruett joined Cox Media Group in 2019 as Executive Chairman. Prior to joining CMG, Pruett served as Executive Vice President and Chief TV Development Officer of Sinclair Broadcast Group since 2017. He joined Sinclair in 2013 as Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer. Steve was responsible for creating the company’s Chesapeake Division through acquisitions, as well as overseeing all TV stations in that group.
Before joining Sinclair, Steve was Chief Financial Officer for Communications Corporation of America and, after a series of successive promotions, became President and Chief Executive Officer in 2007. From 1998 to 2002, he was a special strategic advisor to DirectTV and Thomson Consumer Electronics.
During his career, Steve has helped found several broadcast groups as an initial investor, financier, managing partner or board member, including Spanish Radio Group Excel Communications, ACME Television, USBG, and UPI Media, where he served as President. He also served as treasurer of the FOX Affiliate Board of Governors from 2008 to 2011 when he was elected Chairman, a position he held until 2014.
Steve studied Radio and Television at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He earned a Masters in Management from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Paula, and has a grown son, Stefan, who lives in Los Angeles.
