Bavo Van den Heuvel has extensive experience in privacy and information security consulting. 🦉Bavo is the Founder and Chief Knowledge Officer of CRANIUM Applied Privacy NV, an international consulting company that specializes in privacy and information security. 🦉Bavo'srole involves helping organizations feel safe with regards to privacy, protecting their competitive advantage and brand, and ensuring compliance with legislation. Bavo is also a Co-Founder and Chief Knowledge Officer of RESPONSUM, a company that focuses on privacy and security. Additionally, they have held the position of Director of Product Innovation at CRANIUM Privacy & Security (U.S.). Bavo is involved in academia as well, serving as a Guest Lecturer at various institutions such as Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen - Vlaamse Autonome Hogeschool, KU Leuven, Hogeschool PXL, and HOGENT. Furthermore, they are a member of the Beltug Privacy Council, an expert group within the Beltug association, and serves as an Advisory Board Member for athumi.

Bavo obtained a Micro-credential in Filosofie, kennis en ethiek (Philosophy and Ethics) from the University of Antwerp, from 2022 to 2023.

In 2022, Bavo also pursued a Gerechtsdeskundige / Court Expert degree at KU Leuven.

Bavo attended the University of Amsterdam in 2015 for the Annual IVIR Summer Course on Privacy Law and Policy, focusing on International Privacy.

From 2005 to 2006, Bavo studied at the Instituut voor Forensische Auditoren and obtained the title of "Registered" in Computer Forensics Auditor.

Bavo completed a Master of Science (MS) degree at the University of Antwerp from 1991 to 1996, specializing in Commercial Engineering (Technology). Additionally, in 1995 and 1996, they obtained a University Degree in Approved Tutoring, also from the University of Antwerp.

In terms of certifications, Bavo has earned several from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and other institutions. These include the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPPUS) in 2020, Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) in 2016, Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) and Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) in 2015, and the Certified European Privacy Expert - Technical and Legal (CEPE TL) from EuroPrise in 2021.
