John Viega

John Viega has a diverse work experience in the field of computer science and security. John is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Crash Override, a position they started in 2022. Prior to that, they were an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at NYU School of Engineering since 2014.

From 2016 to 2022, John served as the CEO of Capsule8. Before that, they worked at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence as the Executive Vice President, focusing on Product Management and Engineering for commercial solutions. From 2010 to 2014, they held the position of Executive Vice President of Products, Strategy, and Services at SilverSky, which was later acquired by BAE Systems.

John also has experience in editorial roles, serving as the Editor in Chief of IEEE Security and Privacy Magazine from 2011 to 2012. John was a Technical Advisory Board Member at Fortify Software from 2007 to 2011, and held various positions at McAfee, Bit9, and Stonewall Software earlier in their career.

John Viega earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1996. John then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the same university, which they completed in 1998. Prior to their university education, John attended Wakefield School from 1984 to 1991.
