Claire Chiang

Claire Chiang is the co-founder of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts and pioneered the Group’s retail business. As Chairperson for the China Business Development, she focuses on acquiring new management contracts. She is also an Advisor on Human Capital Development, where she guides strategic issues in organizational and human capital capabilities. She also chairs Banyan Tree Global Foundation, the Group’s sustainability arm.

Ms Chiang is currently the Chairperson for Singapore Book Council. She was appointed Director of Wildlife Reserves Singapore Conservation Fund, Mandai Park Holdings and Denmark based ISS A/S in 2015 and in April 2016 she joined the Board of Directors in Dufry AG, Switzerland. She was also appointed as a Director of Singapore Art Museum in 2016. Most recently in December 2017 she was appointed a Member of the Singapore Biennale 2019 Steering Committee.

Ms Chiang is a Pioneering Member for the Diversity Action Committee to build up female representation on company boards. She co-chairs the ACCORD Family & Community Council set up by the Ministry of Defence. She serves as Justice of Peace, appointed by then Singapore President SR Nathan since 2008. Her term is extended by President Halimah Yacob until 2023. Her many affiliations also include, Member of the National Arts Council, Chairperson of the Shirin Fozdar Program at Singapore Management University, Deputy Registrar of Marriages cum Licensed Solemnizer, Honorary Council Member of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry(SCCCI), and advisor to Help Every Lone Parent (HELP).

For her advocacy in social issues, Ms Chiang has won national and international awards, including the Public Service Star BBM in 2014 for her contribution to implementing work-life integration in Singapore. In April 2016, she received NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Science’s Distinguished Arts and Social Sciences Alumni Award. Most recently in 2017, she was awarded Friend of the Arts by the National Arts Council, for her contribution towards the advancement and promotion of cultural and artistic activities in Singapore. She was the winner of the Supernova Category at the inaugural Women Entrepreneur Award (WEA) 2017. On March 24 th 2018, she was inducted to the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF) established by Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO). The SWHF was established by SCWO to honour the women who have made, or are making, an impact on our nation – the boundary breakers and record holders, the risk takers and change makers, the role models and the standard setters.

Ms Chiang is married to Group Executive Chairman, Mr Ho KwonPing, with whom she received the Hospitality Lifetime Achievement Award at the China Hotel Investment Summit 2009.
