Emem Essien has held a variety of roles in the past nine years. In 2012, they were an Agro-Health Economics and Development Evaluation specialist at Centre for Educational Development and Career Initiative (CEDCI) in Uyo. That same year, they were an Associate Programmes Officer (Intern) at Radio Nigeria in Ibadan. In 2016, they were a Business Promoter for PESSEN MUST CHOP FARMS in Ajobo. Since 2017, they have been the COO and Founding Partner of Crop2Cash, a system that aggregates demand for agricultural inputs from smallholder farmers and collects payments via digital wallets.
Emem Essien completed a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan between 2007 and 2012. In 2015, they obtained a Young African Leaders Initiative certification from the USA Government Commitment to improve Africa. In 2016, they began their Master's degree in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at the University of Ibadan, which they completed in 2019.
