Charles Smart

Charles started with Cross Creek in 2010, when he worked as an Analyst during the firm’s early days. He went on to gain experience in the financial and the technology sectors before returning to the firm as a principal in 2017. In his current role, he is focused on investments in B2B enterprise software and consumer internet companies.

Over the course of his career he has worked for Deutsche Bank’s Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) investment banking group and as an investor with Battery Ventures. At Battery, he specialized in expansion and growth investments in application and infrastructure software companies and played an integral role in sourcing and facilitating investments in AppDynamics, Amplitude and Braze (fka Appboy). He eventually returned to Utah to serve in management roles at DigiCert, an industry-leading internet security company where he was responsible for the product management team and corporate development.

Charles holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah. He also speaks fluent Spanish and studied Spanish art history at the University of Oviedo in Asturias, Spain. A father of four, he is an avid cyclist and skier.
