Martie Richards has extensive work experience in accounting roles. They started their career in 1994 as a Senior Accountant at Medprak Financial Services and remained in that role until 1999. They then worked as a Group Accountant at Benfin Recycling from 1999 to 2003. In 2003, Martie joined Crossroads Distribution as a Financial Accountant and later became the Chief Accountant in February 2014.
Martie Richards obtained a Matric degree from John Vorster, Nigel, with a field of study in Accounting and Business/Management, in the years 1979-1983. Martie then attended Goudstad Teaching College from 1984-1987 and earned a Higher Education Diploma in Geography, Afrikaans, and Physical Training. Subsequently, Martie pursued a B.Compt degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika between 2000 and 2008. In 2012, they attended the South African Institute of Professional Accountants, where they obtained a Professional Accountant (SA) degree in the field of Accounting and Finance.

Crossroads Distribution has its roots in Jowells Transport which began in the 1930s. That company was primarily centered in Namaqualand and the Northern Cape, but the Crossroads of today, one of the largest black-owned logistics companies in South Africa, is a global operation.
