James May

James May was appointed Vice President, Technical Management in April 2023. In this role, James is responsible for CSA Group’s technical functions including technical support, oversight, and policy setting, along with the creation and delivery of technical training. James also oversees new accreditations, third party programs, and regulator and AHJ relations.

Since joining CSA Group in 2012 James has progressed from Certification Engineer through various positions and secondments, including leading CSA’s Western Canadian Operations (based in Edmonton), until finally serving as Director of Operations for Europe’s HAZLOC and Industrial Business. In 2021 James moved into Technical Management serving as Senior Director of Technical Support & Oversight.

Prior to CSA Group, James was a Chief Engineer in the UK Royal Navy where he was responsible for the operational effectiveness of various RADAR systems.

James holds an FDEng in Electrical Engineering from the University of Portsmouth.
