Joan Cho is an Associate Professor of East Asian Studies and Government at Wesleyan University and the author of *Seeds of Mobilization: The Authoritarian Roots of South Korea’s Democracy* (University of Michigan Press, 2024). Their research and teaching interests focus on authoritarianism, democracy, and social movements in East Asia, particularly South Korea. Joan has served as an Adjunct Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies since 2021 and holds an Associate-in-Research position at Yale University. They completed their Ph.D. in Political Science and Government at Harvard University in 2016 after earning both their M.A. and B.A. from the same institution and the University of Rochester, respectively.
