Max Bergmann is the Director of the Europe, Russia, Eurasia Program and the Stuart Center on Northern European Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a position held since 2022. Previously, they served as Policy Director and Deputy Policy Director at the National Security Network in 2009. Bergmann was a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State from 2011 to 2013 and held several roles there, including Speechwriter to Secretary of State John Kerry. They were a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress from 2017 to 2022 and began their academic journey with a Master's degree in Government from The London School of Economics and Political Science after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Bates College.
