Sun Kordel

Deputy CFO & Director, Financial Planning, Finance & Accounting at CSIS

Sun Kordel is deputy chief financial officer and director of financial planning at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. An accomplished finance manager in policy and research organizations specializing in financial planning and analysis, risk assessment, and federal funding management, Sun was the founding director of the financial services unit of the Aspen Institute from 2010-2019, developed institutional policies and processes in federal funding, and established financial services to all programs within different lines of business. Previously, she served as director of management and finance in the Global Economy and Development department at the Brookings Institution. Her earlier career included implementing World Bank educational projects in China and serving as an interpreter for Chinese ministerial level of negotiations on foreign investment in education infrastructure. Sun holds a M.A. from Edinboro University, a certificate from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in nonprofits financial management, and an executive leadership certificate from Harvard Business School. She and her family reside in Potomac, Maryland.
