Travis Simmons

Travis Simmons is a Senior Counsel at Cummins Inc. and a 2025 LCLD Fellow, specializing in intellectual property matters related to fuel cell, electrolyzer, and e-axle technologies. They oversee IP risk management and patent portfolios while leading transactions involving joint ventures and defense projects. Previously, Travis worked as an Intellectual Property Attorney at Foley & Lardner LLP, focusing on patent prosecution and enforcement in the automotive sector. They also have significant engineering experience from Johnson Controls Inc., where they developed safety mechanisms, and have been an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law, contributing to the establishment of a patent law clinic. Currently, Travis is pursuing advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Law at the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy, respectively.
